Mosaic came out in the early 90's an rapidly became the most popular graphical browser. It plays wavs, displays gifs, etc. A perfectly capable browser for its time. And still capable though not the best anymore.
Netscape came out in mid-1994 and by mid-1995 became the most used browser on the Web. It was faster than mosaic (though a bit harder on the machine it requested info from), viewed a wider range of pic. formats, and generally looked nicer. Since it came out it has kept up with new HTML tags and made some of its own while Mosaic has not, thereby allowing it to look much better these days. Netscape will center or align left or right text and pictures, display wallpaper in a simple manner, allow you to change font size, color, and link color, and can have blinking words. A disadvantage is that Netscape enchanced sites tend to look pretty bland in Mosaic. But hey, Netscape's free, why not grab it?
