The Big Dummy's Guide to the Internet and Zen and the Art of the Internet are excellent books for learning the Net. These copies have searchable tables of content which make them REALLY handy. The Internet Companion is the first book I ever read about the net and I was ready when I was done with it. It's got interesting tid-bits, and explains more about what the Net really is.
Net Searchers! From here you may search all of the Internet.
Don't have Gopher access? Here it is, take it and run! :) My favorite gopher is the Pipeline Gopher. Also, the Marvel Gopher has an excellent set of Internet and Gopher rescources and also some more excellent training services
Common Resources Neil Enns has set up a page that accesses gophers, Usenet, web sites, and lots of other things that will increase your comfort in using the Net in general.
What's a FAQ? Frequently Asked Questions. Once you know what part of the Net you like, read the FAQ, it'll save you a lot of time and flames. What's that you want to know? Just the FAQ's ma'am. :) Also check out the new HTML version of Help-Net's FAQ.
Bulletin Board Systems
BBS's are social areas on the Net. Many think they're simply a waste of
time, but a great deal of info can be gleaned from a BBS. Netheads like
me gather from all over the world. These places give you a chance to
talk to people about whatever you so desire.
Useful sites and fun places. This is a list of web sites, some that are very useful for educational purposes, and some that are just fun. But even the fun ones can be used for Ed. stuff, because the added interest will itself teach you about the Web.
This is a link to my bookmark file. It changes pretty much hourly as I cruise the Net and find things I want to use. If you get bored with the normal stuff see what I'm looking at currently.
If you have questions about stuff on here, mail me at cderosia@cornerstone.edu You can also check to see if I'm currently on with finger.
